WHAT GIFTS CAN I MAKE TO THE CANNER FUNDS?

Support teachers and students in your community by considering a gift of appreciated stocks and securities, adding the Canner Funds to your estate plans, inspiring others to learn about and contribute to the Funds, and by encouraging teachers to submit a grant proposal. Or, participate in the annual class competition and help your BHS Alumni class raise the most for the district’s current students! Gifts can be:

  • Annual Gifts: Contributions made to the Funds on an annual basis will ensure its growth. As the Funds increase, more grants are awarded.
  • Commemorative Gifts: These honor exceptional individuals or families. You may choose to give to a fund that honors a person you know, or you may decide to establish your own commemorative fund.
  • Scholarship Gifts: These may be endowed scholarships at a level of $12,500, or a pass-through gift of at least $500. Endowments award 4.5% of their value in scholarships each year.
  • Planned Gifts – Create Your Charitable Legacy: The Canner Funds can help you create the charitable legacy you want for the community you love. Many people choose to include a gift to the Canner Funds in their will or name the Canner Funds as a retirement plan beneficiary.
    • Why?

      • To give back to their community.
      • To continue the donations they made during their lifetime, so the organizations they care most about can continue to count on them.
      • To continue a family tradition of giving.

The Canner Funds are a charitable organization that helps enhance the quality of the educational experience provided to the students of the Upper Adams School District. Established in 2010, the Canner Funds are a tangible way for alumni, parents, community members, teachers, businesses, and friends to support the students of the Upper Adams School District each year. The Canner Funds are managed by the Adams County Community Foundation. The Adams County Community Foundation establishes, invests, and manages permanent endowed funds for the local community, including the Canner Funds. Each year a percentage of each fund will support our teachers and students, and all gifts are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. The Canner Funds are here to help people just like you discover the power of giving back.

Together with the Adams County Community Foundation, the Canner Funds are here to help you and your personal representative ensure your legacy has the maximum impact and that your wishes are put into action.

A gift to the Canner Funds at the Adams County Community Foundation may memorialize a friend or relative, or carry in perpetuity the name of the donor.

      • An unrestricted bequest allows the Canner Funds to determine how to use your gift based on the district’s highest and most pressing needs. If you prefer to make an unrestricted bequest, we suggest the following sample language: “I give and bequeath to the Canner Funds of the Adams County Community Foundation, a Pennsylvania not-for-profit corporation, the sum of _____________ Dollars {or all the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate} to be used for the general purposes of the Canner Funds at the discretion of its Advisory Board.”
      • A restricted bequest directs assets to a specific fund (including an endowment) or a particular purpose. Please be aware there some legal and practical considerations as you plan a restricted bequest to the Canner Funds of the Adams County Community Foundation. For example, certain gifts have minimum required amounts (e.g., scholarships). If you are considering designating your bequest for a specific purpose, we suggest that you speak with Ralph Serpe, President & CEO of the Community Foundation at 717-337-0060.
